The pro-Russian separatists leader and Prime Minister of the self-proclaimed People’s Republic of Donetsk in Ukraine Alexander Borodai, resigned yesterday after the Ukrainian government forces announced their offensive on the rebel cities of Donetsk and Lugansk.

Borodai announced in a press conference that his job was to manage the crisis in its early stages and therefore, he will assign the command to Commander Alexander Zakharchenko.

The now former leader of the pro-Russian separatists, 41 years old, will take over as Deputy Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Donetsk.

The leader was elected by the parliament of Donetsk after the self-determination referendum held on May 11 and which led that insurgents of eastern Ukraine proclaim the independence of that part of the country.
