Ministry advances with the payment of retirees

The jubilee compensation bonus is received by ex-public servants, most of them are doctors and educators. The Labor Minister, Raúl Ledesma, aims to cancel $ 500 million of the debt of $ 900 million for compensation until December.
Despite the fact that there is a ministerial agreement that indicates that if the State does not have resources available, the payments corresponding to the public sector’s retirement benefits will not be made, “President Lenin Moreno decided to pay the servers,” said the minister Raúl Ledesma, to this newspaper.
He reported that in August, $ 17 million was allocated to cancel the debt owed to 292 retirees. And another $ 200 million is disbursed since last week.
“We received from the previous government a debt of $ 900 million, with a projection of $ 1,200 million, with a problem dragged from 2015 almost without having paid anything,” Ledesma explained.
He added that thanks to the management of the National Secretariat of Planning and Development and the Ministry of Finance, an additional $ 55 million was obtained to continue with payments.
“We hope that by December, part of the budget execution of some ministries that for various reasons is not completed, we will be allocated $ 150 million more,” he added.
We can say that this year about $ 500 million of the debt of $ 900 million would be canceled.Ledesma added that next year, within the budgetary proforma, his state portfolio will receive $ 250 million to continue payments in January. “It’s not enough, but we’re going to keep working to get everything.”
The official highlighted the austerity decree that means a savings of $ 500 million per year. “We need about $ 200 million to cover the retirement compensation each year. (The decree) hepls us enormously and the retirees too. ”
In Loja, Delia Rodríguez, 68, retired from the health sector, thanked the authorities for their commitment to complete this payment. “We gave everything for Ecuador, thank you for doing this for us,” she said.
On other issues, Ledesma returned recently from Geneva, where he participated in the third Global Conference of the World Banana Forum held by the United Nations Organization for Food and Agriculture.
The Minister presented the ‘Manual of Health and Safety in the Banana Sector of Ecuador’, which was recognized for its high standards and respect for labor rights within the sector. (I)
