Missouri Governor ordered deployment of National Guard troops
After the riots caused, Jay Nixon, Governor of Missouri, ordered today the deployment of the National Guard troops to assist in the surveillance of protests shaking Ferguson, Missouri. The mobilizations came after the death, nine days ago, of a young unarmed black man as result of several shots by a white police.
Ferguson is mostly populated by black people, which accuse the police of operating with racism.
The Democratic governor justified that the deployment of the National Guard seeks to “restore peace and order” after “deliberate violent attacks, coordinated and intensified to the lives and properties” of Ferguson. “These violent acts are a disservice to the family of Michael Brown and his memory, and to the people of this community who yearn for justice to be served, and to feel safe in their own homes.”, he said in a statement.
President Barack Obama met with General Attorney Eric Holder to discuss the situation in Ferguson, but has not yet to commented on the conversation. A week ago the American president criticized the police excesses and ordered a parallel investigation of the death, performed by the Justice Department and a quarantine of FBI agents.
