Montañita case generates alert in the US and Argentina acts

Yesterday, the US., through its embassy in Quito and its Guayaquil Consulate, recommended its citizens who visit Ecuador to take extreme security measures. Due to the murder of two Argentine tourists in Montañita.
“In light of recent press reports, regarding the robbery and murder of two foreign tourists in Montañita, a popular beach with tourists … The U.S. Embassy in Quito and U.S. Consulate in Guayaquil would like to remind U.S. citizens of the critical crime threat present in Ecuador,” this is the embassy statement, posted on its website yesterday.
He adds that the threat of street crime is higher in tourist areas, “and recommends US citizens to maintain a high level of vigilance.” It also requests to enroll in the Smart Traveler program.
This while Argentina takes for granted the assignment of researchers who will conduct investigations on the procedures of the Ecuadorian police in the locality, identification and autopsy of the bodies of the two girls, who disappeared last February 22 in this resort and whose deaths were confirmed by the Interior ministry on the 28th.
