In less than 48 hours, 25,500 foreign citizens seeking immigration regularization in Ecuador entered the MIDAS platform.
Of that number, 24,340 have already obtained an appointment to validate their information and carry out the biometric registration, prior to obtaining the Migratory Permanence Certificate, as indicated by the Undersecretary of Migration, Richard Karolys.
Until 09:30, in Pichincha 8992 people were registered; in Guayas, 8630; Manabí, 1605 and Cuenca, 1452, reported Karolys.
He also explained that once they reached the appointment, citizens must go to one of the 19 Immigration Registry points, with 77 windows enabled nationwide. In this first stage, led by the Ministry of the Interior, 800,000 foreign citizens are expected to access the registry, said Karolys.
In addition, he reported that, according to a previous study, it was determined that in Quito and Guayaquil there is more presence of Venezuelan citizens, for that reason, more service points were established.
POINTS FOR MIGRATION REGISTRATION OF VENEZUELANS
In Quito, on the platform of the South (Quitumbe sector), 20 windows were opened, which should be approached, the date and time in which the citizens scheduled the appointment. While, in Guayaquil there are 16 points located in the Terrestrial Terminal.
With this regularization, the Undersecretary of Migration pointed out that the country will know how many foreigners are in the territory and what activities they carry out.
This regularization process is aimed at people who are irregularly in the national territory. “A person who entered the country through regular steps is considered an irregular person, but around the time the extensions were granted, they ended,” he said.
Those who already have a visa should not take advantage of the process. None of the processes carried out by the Ministry of the Interior, through the Undersecretary of Migration, generates any cost for foreigners.
He explained that once the information has been validated, a comparison will be made with the National Police and the Judicial Council to grant the Certificate of Migratory Permanence, he clarified that those with a criminal record will not be able to access this document.
Finally, Karolys pointed out that this registry is not intended to deport foreign citizens who remain irregularly in the territory. “They were afraid that there would be operations and they would be deported, but we are not in that process, trust the Ecuadorian State that does a lot of work for this regularization process.”
He also indicated that, once the process is over, there will be the right information to establish public policies on human mobility.
