Most of the debt pays a ‘strong’ interest

Posted On 21 Sep 2015

According to the latest public debt report submitted by the Ministry of Finance, in July, of  32.624 million dollars owed by the country, the 62% pays an interest of more than 5%. In dollars, commitments to that interest annual rate, total 20.278 million. A figure that worries analysts.

Of the amount in question, most is concentrated in the fixed rate between 5.1% and 8%. The multiple compromises with China are one of the greatest examples. By bilateral debts, the country totals 5299.7 million that are paid at that rate.

In domestic debt, bonds issued by the Government also pay interest on the aforementioned range. In July, 8.522 pending million dollars paid that percentage.

The highest interests, however, are abroad. Emissions of Ecuadorian bonds have rates of more than 8.1%. Lower amounts, however, come -mostly- from multilateral organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank (between 0% and 3%).
