Tax generates dispute between Chamber of Industries and the University of Guayaquil
The payment of a 1.2 per thousand tax on capitals of companies registered in Guayaquil generates a dispute between the University of Guayaquil and private companies.
Since 1970 this tax was intended for the construction, equipment and maintenance of the University Hospital (now part of the public health system), according to Law No. 70-06. But in September 2014, that law was repealed through the organic Monetary and Financial Code.
Before this change, the Chamber of Industries of Guayaquil contends that the tax should no longer be collected, since it was repealed. Also, they refer to the response of a query made by the University of Guayaquil to the Attorney General, in January.
