NASA detected comet shower

NASA’s Spitzer telescope detected a comet shower in a system similar to what would have been the Solar System, several million years ago, during the ‘late heavy bombardment’, in which water and other vital elements to create life came to Earth.

Spitzer has detected a band of dust around a nearby brightstar called Eta Corvi, which coincides with the contents of a giant destroyed comet. The researchers report that this dust is close enough to the star to think there was a collision between a planet and one or more comets, following which might be worlds like Earth.

NASA reported that this finding could help scientists understand how was the rain of comets and icy objects that fell from hitting the outer solar system the inner planets, and left large amounts of dust and other materials that caused, for example, the ‘scars’ of the Moon.
