New regulation for cosmetics quality

Personal care products and cosmetics have their own regulations on quality standards to be met in order to be marketed in Ecuador.

The regulation in which the limitations and requirements are set up, is published in the Official Gazette and shall take effect within 180 days.

The rule provides a table with the maximum levels of microorganisms to consider the product free of microbiological contamination. At the same time, it states that the only color additives to be admitted will be listed by the US control agency FDA.

One of the fundamental requirements for the product to be marketed in the country, is that the cosmetic products must be accompanied by an appropriate labeling and a certificate issued by a domestic or foreign body assigned to these quality criteria.
