New Super gas would generates a higher consumption of Extra gas
The possible “substitution effect” that would be generated in case of the elimination of the Super gas subsidy concerns President Rafael Correa. In a discussion table with media in Cuenca, on Tuesday, he said that the proposal of the manager of EP Petroecuador, Carlos Pareja Yannuzzelli, of eliminating the subsidy of this gas and import another improved, but without subsidy, must be analyzed.
He clarified that “subsidies are decided by the President,” but warned that if a better gas is produced but unsubsidized, people could consume extra gas “which is more subsidized than Super gas.” The result would be that “the state spends more and the environment is more polluted because of this gas,” he said.
Precisely this issue was addressed yesterday in the office of EP Petroecuador among the manager of the company and representatives of fuel suppliers and distributors.
