Rupert Murdoch on his arrival in London, reading 'News of the World'

After 168 years of history, UK’s best-selling tabloid News of The World closes with its latest edition which was scheduled today to distribute five million copies.

In its latest edition it includes a farewell article where the newspaper apologizes for the phone hacking affairs and the damage caused to the victims of these excesses. Its front and back cover titled “Thank you & good bye” shows a collage of the most famous covers it has had in its 168 years of history.

“We lost direction. We did phone hacking and therefore this newspaper apologieses. There are no excuses for this shameful conduct. There are no excuses for the pain caused to the victims, either for the deep stain that made into our history.”

The administration announced that to undo the damage done, all the benefits of this latest edition will be split between three charities and it also expressed their support for the two investigations promised by the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, following the scandal case. Ed Miliband, the British Labour leader warned the government that News Corporation should not buy BSkyB’s channel until the solution of the phone hacking case. (BG)
