Odebrecht has one month to repair damages in the Pascuales-Cuenca pipeline
Ecuadornews:
Hydrocarbons minister Carlos Perez warned Thursday during an interview broadcast by the Ecuavisa network that if Odebrecht does not solve the damages of the Pascuales-Cuenca pipeline, the Ecuadorian state will unilaterally terminate the contract. The Brazilian company was given a one-month term to repair the damages of the poly duct and finally deliver the work. Perez visited the project on August 30. The $ 600 million work features design flaws and unstable slopes.
“In my opinion, if the company is not willing to solve the problems, we have no alternative but to terminate the contract. The country will not give them more money,” he said. If these actions were executed, the State would have to bear the reparation costs. The $ 60 million guarantee must be used to cover these expenses, according to Perez.
“We will have to seek alternatives to finish the project,” Perez added. Among damages is the instability of the ground, slopes at risk of collapsing, design flaws, lack of a pressure reduction station. The latter is the one that most worries the authorities. (I)
