Olmedo Quimbita reviews his 30 years of work

The artist presents a sample for his career of three decades, until April 16, in the room Eduardo Kingman of the House of Culture. 

A retrospective with 40 works by the artist Olmedo Quimbita will be presented in the Eduardo Kingman room of the Ecuadorian Culture House (CCE), until April 16. 

This exhibition is made to commemorate the 30 years of plastic work of this artist of Latacungueño origin, who currently resides between Guayaquil and Olón, where he has a hotel and gallery. 

“The artist is still the same, in these 30 years the same energy that I had since I started painting has not been altered. That boy who painted at age 7 his first painting continues painting now. That child-painter is still alive, plays with lines, colors “, says Quimbita, for whom exploring Latin American symbolism is his main interest. 

The conceptual proposal of Quimbita revolves around themes of the Latin American reality with representations about motherhood, roosters, cats, the Venus de Valdivia, coastal landscapes, childhood and processions. In addition, it offers works that talk about children’s games and miscegenation. 

“I once painted the encounter between the two worlds, America and Europe. Now I do not do that, now I paint childhood, “says the artist, whose scenes and characters are characterized by being geometric, representing all the states of the individual and, also, by using colors of different ranges. There are even paintings that dialogue with Cubism. 

Olmedo Quimbita has exhibited his work in Venezuela, Colombia, Paraguay, Brazil, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Israel and Egypt. In addition, in Australia, Jordan, Mexico, England, Russia, France, Hungary, Bolivia, Czech Republic, Chile, Guatemala, Panama, Spain, Austria.

Since the beginning of Quimbita, the artist has explored the relationship between human beings and nature, dialoguing with mystical concepts and deepening emotions. For example, now, the artist is interested in reflecting on fatherhood, after the birth of his first daughter. 

Professionally trained at the Central University of Ecuador, his first paintings were painted in Caracas.
