Operation confiscated 200,000 kilos of drugs in Quito
The Antinarcotics Investigation Unit (UIAN for its Spanish acronym) of the National Police, and the Attorney General of the State, dismantled an international drug trafficking network in an operation executed in Quito on Sunday September 13.
According to communiqué of the Interior Ministry,the capital was the gathering point of the substances that were destined to Australia. The drug was packed in Colombia and transferred by land to Quito. There, the substances were brought to a building located in a private complex in the Tumbaco sector.
After two months of investigation, agents found that the drug was hidden in vehicles with double bottom. In the operation two Ecuadorian citizens and two foreigners were arrested. In addition, 193 packages containing 225 000 grams of cocaine, a vehicle on it way to Guayaquil and packages containing 8 to 9 kilos of heroin were seized.
