Opportunities for fishing and aquaculture exports to the European Union

Ecuadorian sales of fishery and aquaculture products to the European market represent 45.3% of total exports to that market. In 2014, the last year with complete available statistics, fisheries and aquaculture exports fell to $ 1,351 million, 0.3% less than the previous year.

The trade agreement with the European Union is vital to maintain preferential access to that market currently based on the SPG-plus tariff system. Without a trade agreement, Ecuadorian fishery and aquaculture products will have to pay higher tariffs under the Most Favoured Nation regime of the WTO.
