Orange alert because of the moderate to high activity of the Tungurahua volcano
The Tungurahua volcano, which on Friday expelled a mushroom of ash 10 km in height, recorded this Saturday an activity between moderate and high, although it maintains the intermediate level of alert, according to Ecuadorian authorities.
Located in the Andean Center of Ecuador, Tungurahua (throat of fire in Quechua language) joined in February in a new eruptive process, characterized by the ejection of incandescent material and ash.
Baños, a tourist town of about 22,000 inhabitants, on the slopes of the volcano, the most recent event did not alter the routine of the inhabitants or the arrival of visitors, according to several witnesses.
Located in the homonymous province, 130 km south of Quito, the Tungurahua is one of the eight active volcanoes in Ecuador, a country that is part of the so-called ring of fire of the Pacific, making it prone to seismic and volcanic events.
