Patients pay up to $ 80 for a medical consultation
Citizens recognize that the health care is good, but it exceeds their costs. A doctor explains that the rates depend on the training of the physician and infrastructure of the medical centre.
Some companies force their employees to pay for private insurance, besides the affiliation with the IESS. David Jarrin says that the public health service should improve and become more agile. While acknowledging that private health is good, he also believes that costs are high.
According to Volume II of the National Survey of Sexual and Reproductive Health ENSANUT-ECU 2012, in the last 30 days 28.1% of the population went to private health facilities. Quito and Guayaquil are listed as the cities where its inhabitants make a wider use of private medicine.
Quintiles 3, 4 and 5 of the Ecuadorian population use private medical services more frequently. 26.9%, 36.0% and 45.6% respectively do.
