Petroecuador loses market shares in the sale of super gasoline
Posted On 11 Jul 2017
Ecuadornews:
Until 2015, Petroecuador hoarded a third of the fuel sales market shares for the automotive sector. As of June 2017, that share fell to 26.2%.
The main factor that explains this evolution is the loss of market shares in the sale of super gasoline, due to the policy of equating the prices in its gas stations to match them with those of the competition.
Following this decision in October of 2015, the sale of super in the gas stations affiliated with this state company was reduced and thus, lost shares. The gallon price of super rises two cents each month at stations in the Petroecuador network.
It started at USD 2, today it’s at 2.26 and the initial goal was to reach 2.30. According to data from the National Chamber of Distributors of Petroleum Derivatives (Camddepe), this measure reduced its participation in the sale of super gasoline from 42.2% two years ago to 26% until June of this year, based on Petroecuador figures.
