Through a statement, the Plan V digital magazine reported it “was pulled off the air” so it remained inaccessible to the public at least an hour this afternoon.

They attributed the fact to a censorship measure taken by the Ministry of Communication of Ecuador (Secom), as this institution filed a complaint for alleged violation of copyright for using eleven photographs of President Rafael Correa, Vice President Jorge Glas and other officials.

The complaint by the Secom was filed on May 28. According to reports of the Andean Foundation for the Media Observation and Studies (Fundamedios), the order of the institution came to the servers hosting the journalistic website through a letter signed by Patricio Barriga, head of that portfolio of the state.

The Secretariat of State denounces the violation of the copyright of the images, while the digital magazine argues that since Plan V meets the requirements to post the photos under the “fair use” doctrine, which allows the publication of material for academic or informative purposes.
