Platini aspires to the Presidency of FIFA
The President of the Union of European Soccer Federations (UEFA, for its Spanish acronym), the French Michel Platini, said today in an interview published by the German sports magazine “Kicker”, there is the possibility of presenting his candidacy for the Presidency of the International Federation of Associated Soccer (FIFA) in 2015.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do. I’ve been thinking about it, because everyone asks me to do it”, recognized Platini, who added: “the President (Joseph Blatter) has already announced that he won’t present his candidacy”. “The position will be vacant… for whom? We’ll see that”.
Joseph Blatter, 77-year-old, made remarks two years ago about stepping out in 2015, but recently he changed those statements, so there is already speculation about the possibility of an electoral contest between the two candidates.
Platini, furthermore, considered “impossible” that the Bayern Münich President, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, can replace him at the front of UEFA if he finally decides to run for President of FIFA.
In this regard, the French considered that German Rummenigge’s professional profile does not fulfill what’s required to the position, since he has not developed a career within the European Association.
