Political organizations postulate proposals for referendum

Ecuadornews:
Three issues in sight. Political organizations are already thinking about their proposals in case President Lenin Moreno calls a referendum.
Political actors consulted said, unanimously, that a question should be: Do you agree with the elimination of the Council of Citizen Participation and Social Control?
That could become a hot topic. Alianza PAIS legislators consider it a setback in citizens’ rights. That being the case, they would not support the initiative.

But former presidential hopeful Cynthia Viteri refutes it and ensures that the elimination of this instance is entirely viable under the referendum mechanism. “The law permits to do and undo things. The Constitution was approved by the vote of Ecuadorians, and with that same vote, they can make the necessary changes,” Viteri told this newspaper.
The debate also includes the elimination of indefinite re-election. In a letter, the leader of the CREO party, Guillermo Lasso, explained that this possibility should be removed, not only to the former presidents, also to all positions of popular election.

The director of the Adelante Ecuatoriano Adelante party Wilson Sanchez thinks that a referendum should envisage a mechanism to make justice independent and “prevent further persecution of Ecuadorians who think differently,” he said. (I)
