Pope Francisco and cardinals seek to “renew” the Catholic Church
Federico Lombardi, Vatican’s spokesman, announced that a group of eight cardinals, led by Pope Francisco and called G8, met on Tuesday to work on the “renewal” of the Church of the Second Vatican Council.
“Their work is not limited to organizational matters for the institution to be more effective. They began working on ecclesiology since Vatican II” [the Council (1962-1965) which opened the Church to the world], Lombardi said.
In the next session, it is planned to examine the the functioning of the pastoral family (including the issue of divorce and remarriage).
In response to questions about ” How can a church be holy, made of human beings, of sinners? Sinful men and women, sinful priests and nuns, sinful bishops, cardinals and popes. How can a church be holy as well? “Francisco replied that is holy because it comes “from God “, therefore the Church does not reject sinners.
