Possible Tsunami in the Ecuadorian Coasts Warns the Population
Due to the earthquake of 8.9 on the Richter Scale that slamed Japan yesterday afternoon, the Galapagos Islands (1,000 km from the coast of America) prepares for an evacuation of the entire village.
The earthquake warning extends from the Mexican coast to Chile, according to the Tsunami Warning Pacific Center . Oceania and several Pacific islands are also under the this alert.
According to reports of the Naval Oceanographic Institute of Ecuador, it is estimated the waves to reach the Galapagos shores at around 5pm (local) (11pm GMT), while into the mainland would arrive close to 7pm (local) (12am GTM).
To carry out the evacuation in the islands island, authorities ordered to relocate the town to the near and highest points of location. On the other hand, vessels should leave port for a distance of 5 nautical miles, where waves cannot be dangerous.
