Prefect Jairala delivers solution to the Guayas River dredging
The Prefecture of the Guayas seeks a comprehensive solution to the problem of the accumulation of sediments in the Guayas River. The provincial executive, Jimmy Jairala, considers it is necesary the formation of a committee involving his counterpart of Los Rios and possibly Manabi; the Secretariats of Water and Risk Management; and the Ministries of Agriculture and Environment to find a definitive solution.
“We have four or five years to act in some way and in this case that would be starting to work on the source of the sediments, which is not Guayas, but in most cases the province of Los Ríos,” said the Prefect at the meeting of delivery of the final study report to theSecretary of Risk Management, María del Pilar Cornejo and Water Undersecretary, Arturo Pazmiño, to make the dredging.
Four million cubic meters of sediment must be removed in the adjacent area to El Palmar islet. To do this, it is required a 750 millimeters dredger, which according to Jairala, does not exist in the country.
