President Correa Supports Mayor of Playas

Posted On 26 Feb 2011

Mayor of Playas, Miguel Achi (Movimiento País), would leave his office tomorrow as the season of his revocation process ended successfully yesterday, however, the President of the Republic, Rafael Correa, visited the county to express his support for the mayor.

“Revocations have been used unhealthily and the government supports Mayor Achi’s work,” said Correa, who praised Achi and invited him to continue working to turn Playas into one of the main tourist destinations of Ecuador.

“Michel, the works have to continue, especially on the sanitation and basic services that are needed in the county,” said the president during the delivery of a loan of $ 954,000 given by the State Bank of Playas, to be used in risk prevention, health infrastructure and land registers.

Correa said he would return to Playas to check health services.

On the referendum, the President:

Announced that he would not make a campaign in advance to promote the Yes option.

He recalled that it was the right-wing groups (Madera de Guerrero and Jaime Nebot) who insisted that an inquiry is conducted to generate a radical change in the justice system: “They say it is unconstitutional, there are many people who oppose the right of the Ecuadorian people to express themselves in the polls.”

“In the referendum, which will be on May 7, Ecuadorians will demonstrate whether or not they trust in their government.”
