Prices in industries will be controlled
Ecuadornews:
The poultry industries, rice pillars and banana exporters will be subject to an interinstitutional control so that the prices established in the respective ministerial agreements are respected.
This was reported by Rubén Flores, head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG). The objective is to guarantee the activity of agricultural producers, especially small ones.
For this purpose, the State portfolio will coordinate with the competent control entities. “The control actions are aimed at compliance with the legal framework and the observance of current prices to give farmers peace of mind, good commercial practices and fair competition.”
In the trades addressed to the banana sector the official stressed that the “exporter who does not sign a contract with the producers and / or marketers, will not be able to export the product, like the exporter who uses the quotas in the spot market”.
On Monday, May 14, around 150 farmers, including rice farmers, corn growers, cocoa farmers and others, from Guayas and Los Ríos and Manabí, the MAG facilities, located on Carlos Julio Arosemena avenue, were taken for about an hour from Guayaquil.
The reason for the protest was to request the president of the Republic, Lenin Moreno, the exit of the head of the MAG, Rubén Flores.
Manuel Gonzaga, president of the Montuvio People of Ecuador, indicated that the minister has neglected the agricultural sector and that he has not acceded to the orders of the producers, such as eliminating the price range for rice and corn and intensifying the control of inputs.
“He has always paid attention to the agroindustrial, and not to small farmers,” said Gonzaga, after noting that if until May 25 President Moreno does not attend them “we will make a massive mobilization, at national level so that can attend. ” The seizure of the Ministry ended after 12:10, after the peaceful actions of the members of the National Police.
