Private airlines will cover Tame’s exclusive routes

Posted On 21 May 2020

The airlines Latam, Avianca and Aeroregional will cover the routes that Tame will leave deserted when its liquidation process ends.

Private airlines will cover Tame’s exclusive routes

“We have an agreement with Latam so that the flights to Santa Rosa continue and El Oro is not neglected,” said the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Gabriel Martínez. This same airline has promised to travel to Loja.

While Avianca and Aeroregional will take over Esmeraldas and Lago Agrio

President Lenín Moreno signed the decree that gives way to the liquidation of Tame on May 20. On Tuesday he said that the public company carries large losses and that they will be aggravated by the collapse of the aviation industry in the world due to covid-19.

“The estimated loss was $ 45 million for this year, but it will skyrocket if we maintain an operation with lower-than-budgeted income,” added the minister yesterday.

932 employees work at the airline, of which 527 are suspended due to the stoppage of commercial activities. 63 employees were given vacations and 462 teleworked.

Martínez pointed out that there will be separation of personnel before the more than five months that the liquidation of the company is expected to delay.

For this process, we will seek to monetize the assets in order to cover the compensation of the employees. Selling the planes or for separate parts is also analyzed.

The president of the Coordinating Company of Public Companies (EMCO), Marco Ávila, indicated that the legal process for the closing of Tame requires 240 days.

The company needs $ 16 million of the $ 43 million budgeted to liquidate the personnel of the seven public companies that will be eliminated.

Martínez said that an inventory of assets is being worked on to offer them to potential interested parties. He also mentioned that one option is to offer the planes with the crew, so that these people do not lose their jobs. (I)
