Process to collect signatures for the Yasuní began
Posted On 04 Oct 2013
Since yesterday, people can pick up the forms to collect signatures to call for a referendum promoted by the collective YASunidos, which oppose oil extraction in blocks 31 and 43 located in the Yasuni National Park.
The National Electoral Council (CNE) notified the group last Thursday, and yesterday at 11:00 am, the documentation was ready.
But Patricio Chavez, YASunidos member, confirmed that they are not going to pick up the forms yet, because they are waiting to be trained by the CNE. “We do not want to make mistakes in the collecting of signatures,” Chavez said.
The organization must collect signatures, in six months, equivalent to 5% of the electoral register to request the execution of the popular consultation.
