Twenty public defenders distributed in nine provinces, will serve doctors working in the public health system for their defense in case of complaints against them for malpractice, a criminal offense consisting in the new Code of Integral Penal (COIP) .
On February 12, the Ministry of Public Health and the Public Defender signed an agreement to provide the service of free and specialized public defense for doctors who require sponsorship and legal advice on the processes that may be initiated against them .
Both institutions have trained the defenders in Medical Law and Forensic Technique so they can read and interpret expert reports containing medical and technical criteria.
