Public spending fell by $ 4,012 million

There are no resources left. In almost two months, President Lenin Moreno has handled less money than the administration of former president Rafael Correa in the same period of 2016. Therefore, the expenses have contracted by about 4.012 million dollars.

According to the report on Budget Execution of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, which has been published again after four months, the government of Moreno has spent 2,971 million dollars in June and July. In the same period of the previous year, Correa spent 6.983 million dollars.

The largest cuts are evident in payments of commitments and investments. Something common, experts say, when a new government arrives.

The financial differences, however, are not exclusive – though they are more noticeable – in recent months. In this year, public agencies made less current and investment expenses. From January to July this year, for example, $ 1.006 million was allocated to Consumer Goods and Services. In the same period of 2016, the amount reached 2,203 million dollars. That is, $ 1.1 billion less.

Even in wages, there was a reduction. Last year, $ 4.82 billion was used for public servant salaries. This year, from January to July only 4,315 million dollars were used. 85% of these staff are doctors and teachers. (I)
