Quino, the creator of Mafalda, turns 82
Joaquín Salvador Lavado Tejón, better known as Quino, turns today 82. Born in July 17, 1932 in Mendoza, Argentina, in 1945 he enters the School of Fine Arts of that city, motivated by his uncle.
In 1954 he published his first page of comics in the weekly “Esto es”, so his fame grew, but it was not until 1963 when he published a compilation book called “Mundo Quino”. Being in charge of the advertising campaign for Mansfield appliances, which never materialized, the Mafalda character was born.
The last comic strip of Mafalda is published by the desire of Quino in 1973, although he has continued drawing to collaborate in campaigns for children and education. His awards include: Golden Palm (1978), Grand Prix International Max und Moritz (1988), Knight of the Order of Isabel the Catholic (2005) and Prince of Asturias Award (2014).
