Quito City Council advisors earn more than councilors

The world upside down: in Quito, 41 advisers of the Council Members earn more than the councilors themselves. In a City Council´s report of last year expenses, it is shown that 20 out of 21 councilors had two advisers, whose income exceeded those of who legally acted as head of the office. And this situation is repeated this year.

A councilor receives a remuneration of USD 2,750 a month, but his two top advisers earn 3,000 each. Comparing this with football, it is as if the technical assistant perceived more money than the coach. Only one councilman, Carlos Paez (AP) hired one single adviser.(I)
