Rafael Correa Will Beging Another Legal Action
Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa said that next week he will begin another legal action against members of the public oversight after a moral damage claim against journalists Juan Carlos Calderon and Christian Zurita for $ 10 million.
Members of the citizen oversight Victor Hugo Hidalgo, Pablo Chambers, Jose Quishpe, and Gerardo Portillo, presented on February 9th to the Committee on Public Participation of the Assembly, the results of their investigations into the Fabricio Correa case.
This report certifies that the president was aware of his brother’s contracts with the state and alleged they were signed within several irregularities and favoritism.
Correa appealed to a request, processed in the 5th Civil Court of Pichincha against the two journalists, authors of the book called “Big Brother”, which shows that the president did know about such contracts.
The President believes that this work contains images of him and his brother and also unauthorized texts that violate intellectual property rights. Correa rates the authors as malicious pseudo writers and ensures that this work is “offensive, degrading, and humiliating” and on the other hand it is “false and libelous”.
