Relatives of missing people meet with regime leader

The country has more than a thousand of missing people and their relatives have organized in the Association of Relatives and Friends of Disappeared Persons of Ecuador, who will meet with the Ecuadorian President, Rafael Correa, to address various topics related to the missing people, their search and prevention and propose the creation of a specialized secretariat for finding missing persons and is under the Ministry of Interior.

Luis Sigcho, president of the Association, said that the goal of meeting with the president is to tell (the president) each case because they believe that the police has not made the necessary investigations and that there are no results and even some cases have added years.

The Association would carried out next Friday the World Day of the Disappeared with a Mass at the Cathedral of Quito, and together with the Ombudsman’s Office will announce the First National Meeting of Families of Missing Persons for the next October 24 and 25 in Quito.

According to the statistics cited by this group there are 1090 cases of disappearances that have no police response.

The event still has no date, but was committed to the Association by President Correa.
