Retirees thank the media and claim their rights before the IESS

A day of celebration. The Assembly of Retired, Technical, Pensioners and Elderly Organizations of Ecuador decided to celebrate its traditional ‘Retirees Day’ to thank those who support its management. The media, according to Assembly representatives, have shown their commitment to the elderly.
The authorities of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) are at the opposite end. The President of the retirees’ association Edison Lima took advantage of the act to claim for the outstanding accounts that the Government has with the social security agency. He insists on the exit of the leading directors of the IESS for lacking transparency during their management.
The retirees concentrated to deliver written acknowledgments to the media outside the IESS headquarters in the capital. They also carried signs claiming to the Government the payment of 2.878 million dollars. (I)
