Richard Calderon sees “form” changes in Identity bill

The president of the Commission on Autonomous Governments of the Assembly, Richard Calderon (AP), said that the executive veto to the Identity bill is on issues of ‘form’ and not of ‘substance.’

He confirmed that the board that processes the proposal received yesterday the document, which in turn had arrived to the legislature on Tuesday.

The veto extends to 61 secions out of 103 of the bill, and 8 provisions out of 14. That is, more than 50%.

Calderon considers that the amount was because of the objections to the renaming of the identity card and the institution, which were mentioned in several sections of the proposal.

President Rafael Correa asked not to call “National Identity Document (DNI)” to the ID card, or “National Directorate of Identity Management and Civil Data” to the General Directorate of Civil Registry.

He requested not to change the names of the offices.

Calderon said yesterday that amendments were requested by the Civil Registry.

He announced that next Tuesday, the Commission will prepare the respective report.
