Rodrigo Gomez warns of ambiguity in the Land Law bill
Rodrigo Gomez de la Torre, president of the Chamber of Agriculture, when commenting on the draft Land Law in an interview with Ecuavisa, said it is very little what is left to redistribute in the country.
Gomez has more questions than certainties about the new law, and wonders what has happened to the latifundia that have already been redistributed as Hacienda La Clementina in the province of Los Rios, seized to businessman Alvaro Noboa.
He said it is necessary to assess what we have done to see what we want to do. He also mentioned that there is concern about the ambiguity of what they see as landlordism, because this will be defined by the national agrarian authority. Moreover, it is not clear what is a productive unit.
He recalled that in the past, in the 60s and 70s, the land was already redistributed, “we can no longer continue with that,” what we need is to produce and guarantee food sovereignty.
