Russia Will Support Annan’s Syria Plan at UN
Russia informed that its willing to support a United Nations resolution endorsing Kofi Annan’s plan for settling the Syrian crisis. Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that the resolution shouldn’t become an ultimatum to the Syrian government.
According to Lavrov, the document of the UN Security Council, appeared to indicate that the growing impatience of the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Kremlin has offered strong support to Annan, the former United Nations secretary-general who now is a joint UN and Arab League envoy.
Lavrov stated that it is time that Annan’s proposal is unveiled, adding that Moscow is ready to back a UN Security Council resolution. The Russian Foreign Minister added that Annan’s plan doesn’t contain a demand for Assad to step down. (AV)
