Sandra Torres was vetoed her right to the presidential office
Posted On 10 Aug 2011
The candidacy for the presidency of Guatemala of the former first lady Sandra Torres Casanova was rejected unanimously by the Constitutional Court because it violates the article number 186 of the Constitution.
This article, vetoes the right to opt for the presidential office to relatives within the fourth degree of consanguinity and second of affinity of the president, “when the President is on his/her charge.”
Torres was married to the former President, Alvaro Colom until April 7, because she wanted to be a presidential candidate for the elections that will be held next September 11. (BG)
