The mayor of Santo Domingo and La Concordia, and the Prefecture of Santo Domingo de los Tsachilas have requested the Ministry of Finance to pay them the arrears of February and March and an additional 10% of the budget to cope with the damage caused by the earthquake and the migration of prople from Manabi that are arriving to the province.
The migration of disaster victims gave way to the enablement at least seven shelters, where both municipalities provided medicines, food and basic services. _ There´s not an exact number of the refugees, but it is estimated that these exceed 2,000 and this number could increase.
Victor Quirola, mayor of Santo Domingo, said that this is a “very serious” situation because they need resources to accomodate them and grant benefits to those who choose to stay: “They will need schools, utilities, medicine, transportation, housing, etc.”
