Santos announced that release of General Rubén Alzate will be on Saturday
The President of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos, announced today that General Rubén Darío Alzate, kidnapped along with two companions by the FARC last November 16, will be released on Saturday November 29th.
Santos made the announcement in the framework of a discussion with entrepreneurs in the Financial Services Centre of the Seine, in Bogota, confirmed the Presidency.
The President had suspended peace negotiations and conditioned their continuity by the liberation of Alzate, his two companions and two other soldiers who were already delivered on Tuesday by the guerrilla to a humanitarian mission.
“I already ordered suspension of military operations in the Pacific Coast. We hope that General Alzate and companions are back on Saturday,” Santos published on Wednesday in his Twitter account.
For its part, the peace delegation of FARC in Havana today called to avoid armed clashes and to respect the terms of the humanitarian agreement for the release of the three captives on Saturday.
