Sending of reservists to combat Ebola is authorized by Obama
The United States President Barack Obama on Thursday authorized the Pentagon to send reservists to West Africa to fight Ebola, participating in the implementation of the necessary logistics infrastructure.
Obama authorized the deployment of reservists for humanitarian relief operations “linked to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa,” according to a decree issued by the White House.
The president announced last month the sending of 3,000 American military personnel in the region to organize a response against the virus that has already left more than 4,500 deaths, especially in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.
He is also considering appointing an official in charge of leading the coordination of the response to the disease. American congressmen would have motivated the government to choose the responsible.
Meanwhile, experts would have told Obama that “a travel ban is not the solution” because the current control measures are working.
