Several Wounded After Seism in Philippines

Posted On 16 Mar 2012

At least 23 people have some minor wounds after the seism of 5,9 in the Richter scale. The phenomena shook the Philippine Island of Mindanao, in the south of the country.

Most of the wounded people, 20, suffered their injuries in the stampede of a mall in the city of Surigao, at 25 kilometres in the southeast of the epicentre. During the seism a crystal roof in the mall fell down, panic seized the people and many were stomped by its desperation to leave the building.

Three people were wounded in a gym after a cable snapped due to the seism. The Philippines sits on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, which is an area with great volcanic and seismic activities. This location is shaken around 7,000 times per year; most quakes are of moderate nature. (AV)
