State of Emergency in Galapagos over stranded ship
Posted On 15 May 2014
After a week of the cargo ship “Galapaface I” stranded in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal Island, the Emergency Operations Committee (COE), has made a request to the National Secretariat for Risk Management to declare state of emergency in the Sanctuary Islands.
According to the technical report of the COE, this accident could cause environmental damage and disruption to the ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands.
Given this declaration, the Secretariat will directly buy goods, contract services and execute works that will be required to remove the boat.
