Students in Chile Complain about the Educational Reform
Around 150,000 students and teachers of Chile marched yesterday while chanting “Its going down, the education of Pinochet is going down!” The demonstration prolonged itself until the night in the whole country to pressure the Government of Sebastian Piñeria to accept the reforms for the educational system.
After two months of the strikes, hunger strikes and demonstrations the students movement has earned the support of the population which represents the 80% of support of the students claims. This revolt has transformed the Chilean President Government into the less popular since the democracy was rebooted in Chile in 1990.
La Moneda, the main office of the Government, deployed 1,300 police officers to control the march in Santiago. During the morning the students formed barricades in different sectors of the Chilean capital to block the transit. During the protest students pretended to be in prison with a sign that read “Condemned by the education.”
The organization of the students has incited an ambiance that Chile did not lived in decades, now several other entities are joining the protest, taxis are complaining about the increase of fuel and so on. (AV)
