As reported in the Twitter account of the Islamic Front, the main Islamist opposition alliance, fifty soldiers were killed in an attack on the Carlton Hotel in the old city of Aleppo, in northern Syria.
At the same time, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Syrian rebels had pulverized the famous hotel, causing fatalities among the soldiers who occupied the building since the beginning of the conflict in Syria.
“Rebel Islamist brigades have pulverized the historic Carlton Hotel in the old city of Aleppo, thanks to a large amount of explosives set in a tunnel [beneath the building],” the Observatory said. The explosion caused “the destruction of the hotel and some other historical buildings.”
