QUITO, Ecuador

The President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, appointed General Rodrigo Suarez Salgado as the new Commanding Police General, replacing Patricio Franco, who spent two years in that office.

Jose Serrano, Interior Minister, made the announcement via Twitter and then with an official statement.

The official transfer ceremony will take place next Monday, with the presence of President Correa. (MZ)
