Posted On 09 Apr 2016
The Commission on the Economic Regime includes powder juices, soft drinks, processed juices, ready to drink tea, soda and other sweetened drinks in the group of products that will pay the tax on special consumption (ICE).
With eight votes in favor and three against, the Assembly approved yesterday April 8, 2016 the report for the first debate of the bill for the Balance of Public Finances, which includes this and seven other modifications to the original bill submitted by the government.
Initially, the Government proposed to levy sodas with USD 0.25 per liter. But the assembly proposed to levy beverages containing more than 25 grams of sugar or artificial sweeteners up to $ 0.25 per liter.
The tax payment includes powdered mixes for making beverages. The Commission left out to milk and its derivatives and 50% natural juices, said the chairman of the board, Virgilio Hernandez (I).
