Ecuadornews:
Theassembly of the 46 creations of 53 foreign and Ecuadorian artists is carriedout in the 24 venues of the International Biennial of Cuenca.
The XIV edition of this contest will start next Friday. At 10:30 that day will be fulfilled a sort of symbolic takeover of the Calderón park, in the Azuaya capital, with the play ‘La caja de Cachicamo’.
It is aperformance by the late Venezuelan artist Diego Barboza, who said that hisproposal is an expression of collective art offered to the passer-by in publicplaces.
From there, the participants will walk one block to the Museum of the City, where the exhibition ‘Empire of the plural’ will be inaugurated. It is part of the Cisneros Fontanals Collection, which is considered one of the most important contemporary art in Latin America. There are 24 works.
The exhibition was curated by Jesús Fuenmayor, who is the curator of the Biennial. It is one of the six parallel exhibitions that supports this contest. Another sample is’ Readable / Visible. Between the frame and the page ‘, which was cured by the Spanish Mela Dávila and Maite Muñoz. It is also ‘It’s raining outside’, by Pablo Cardoso.
According to the director of the Biennial, Cristóbal Zapata, for the volume of works, the greater number of venues in museums and public places and, above all, for the quality of the proposals and parallel exhibitions, this “is the most important edition”.
For this occasion, Fuenmayor raised the concept “Living structures. Rituals without myths in contemporary art “. It is an invitation to reflect on the ways we relate to art, to focus on the idea of art as an experience or plural experience: aesthetic, sensory, intellectual, emotional, emotional, psychological, but also political, sociological, anthropological.
When the Biennial is open from this Friday, says Zapata, it will be verified in practice what is the dialogue between the public and the works and if the proposal of Fuenmayor was fulfilled. But he considers that the selected works have those characteristics and are conceived to generate that interaction with the spectator.
The official opening will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the Pumapungo Theater. There, the winners will be known, who will receive the Julián Matadero, El Guaraguao and Piedra de Sal awards. There is no hierarchy.
In addition, recognition will be granted Paris, delivered by France. The exhibition venues will have 25 educational mediators who will be responsible for generating relationships of reflective, informative and motivational exchange with the public, in accordance with their interest. The previous edition had 130,000 visitors and Zapata expects that amount to increase. (I)
