The eyes of the Assembly set on Galo Chiriboga

Ecuadornews:

Doubts are huge, but expectations are low. Opposition members hope that the appearance of Galo Chiriboga will have better results than the last visits of senior officials to the Audit Commission of the Legislature.
Former Attorney General Galo Chiriboga will appear today at the Legislature to talk about cases of corruption. This time, the doubt revolves around former Comptroller General Carlos Pólit. As a prosecutor, Chiriboga appeared to talk about Odebrecht’s ties with fines in Ecuador and the ‘Panama Papers.’
Paola Vintimilla, a Legislator of the Social Christian Party, has little hope in what the former Attorney General and former Minister of Hydrocarbons has to say. She believes that if there is an adequate space for questioning, it would be interesting to know more about his alleged links with some of the allegations of irregularities in the government.
Héctor Yépez, a Legislator of the SUMA / CREO bloc, is also incredulous at his statements. For him, the appearance of Vice President Jorge Glas was an example of what should not be done this time. “The shows do not provide answers before the constant evidence of corruption,” he said.
For the political opposition, the investigation of corruption cases that allegedly involve officials and former officials of the government of former President Rafael is fundamental to trust in the administration of President Lenin Moreno.
Patricio Donoso, Legislator of the CREO party, believes that the image of transparency will be achieved only with an efficient investigation and with a severe punishment to the offenders. (I)
